Donations

January 2010

If you’re like me, you want to make sure that every dollar counts.  There certainly aren’t enough to where we can afford to waste, which is why more people are taking a closer look at where their donations go and how the recipients use those dollars.  You want it to help those who truly need help and you want it used efficiently, not for high executive salaries or excessive mailings or other things that cheat the ones you want to aid.

You may be one of the many whose families have been served by Lower Valley Hospice and Palliative Care over the past few years.  If there is anything about that experience that did not go as well as you would like, I am personally available to take your call to discuss it. I would also like to hear stories of how we helped you.

Giving money is not the only way you can help  One of the greatest challenge for us is in helping others understand why Hospice is important and why calling Hospice earlier, rather than later, helps us to do a better job helping you and those you care about.  When all we have is a week (over 35% of all Hospice service is 7 days or less) it’s hard to do our best.  You can help us help others by being a Hospice advocate.

If you choose to make a tax deductible donation or memorial gift, here is how we will use it:

(a) Pediatric Palliative Care Program:  As the only Hospice in rural Washington certified to provide this program we serve families whose child has been hospitalized and diagnosed with a severe, life-limiting condition.  We are helping families enjoy what time they have with their children, providing in-home support and education, and helping them minimize the time, expense and chaos of repeated hospitalizations.

(b) Bereavement Services:  Currently we provide follow-up care to families who have lost someone we have served.  Our trained,  grief caregivers are ready to begin forming new Grief Support Groups throughout our service corridor.

(c) Attending an Event:  By attending Lower Valley Hospice’s events you can support us while also joining others in our communities as we have fun together.  For information, please see our website or call us at the numbers listed below.

May 1, 2010:  2nd Annual VinoCache uniting Geocaching with Wine Tasting.  Over 21 only.  Takes place in Prosser, WA.  The day culminates in the HoBO Dinner, a Barbecue and Wine Fiesta!

October 23, 2010:  32nd Anniversary Celebration Dinner of Lower Valley Hospice in Sunnyside, WA.  Join us for an evening of food, fellowship, silent and live auction.
